The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan grassroots organization working to protect and expand voting rights and ensure everyone is represented in our democracy. We empower voters and defend democracy through advocacy, education and litigation at the local, state, and national levels.

Membership in the League of Women Voters, the most respected and effective grassroots organization in the country, is open to people of all ages and identities. Our members make a visible difference by serving as community leaders using their experience to create positive, lasting change in our communities.
Who are the members?
The LWVEA serves the people of Ashland, Castro Valley, Cherryland, Fairview, Hayward, Hayward Acres, Hillcrest Knolls, San Leandro, and San Lorenzo. We collaborate with other chapters throughout the Bay Area.
Why Should I Join?
Through participation in League projects, you will:
- contribute valuable service to the community
- assist local residents to become informed and engaged in voting and other civic action
- advocate for issues you care about from a data-driven, well respected base
- gain knowledge and experience through the study and discussion of timely and important topics
- discover new interests, develop new skills and learn about crucial issues in your community
- make professional contacts and develop lasting friendships as you meet others in League who share your interests
How Much Time Does it Take?
It's up to you! Your membership alone gives the League the political influence needed to build a voice for citizens and a force for change. You could get involved in Voter Forums during election years, Voter registration and Education every year, Outreach, and many other efforts - some requiring an hour or two, others needing several hours a month. We cover a broad spectrum of issues and concerns; you may choose to become involved in one or more of them by actively participating in a group study, or developing a position to guide policy at the local, regional, state, or national level.
How much does membership cost?
Suggested dues are $75 per year.
We do offer a sliding scale starting at $20 per year.
What comes with membership?
You automatically become a member of the Bay Area Inter-League Organization, LWV California and LWV of the United States. As a League member, you will receive regular newsletters, event announcements, and action alerts. You can opt-in to participate in working groups and/or apply to sit on local oversight boards as a League representative. You will have the knowledge that you are adding your voice a powerful force from all 50 states, DC, Virgin Islands and Hong Kong. Join us and be part of the solution.
